The main purpose of the terminal is the trans-shipment of goods and containers from narrow to wide gauge, consolidation of goods by means of transport.
Last weekend the first 10 container trains passed through the terminal in the direction of China-Europe. The construction of the facility was carried out by LLP «Dostyk TransTerminal (Dostyk TransTerminal)». The management company of the terminal is LLP «PTC Cargo».
The new cargo handling terminal is located on an area of 150 hectares 6 km west of Dostyk station, in close proximity to the border crossing point «Dostyk — Alashankou». The terminal is designed for the trans-shipment of goods and containers from the railway gauge of 1,435 mm (China) to the gauge of 1,520 mm (Kazakhstan), cars and vice versa, as well as for the processing, storage, repair, formation of block container trains through the Kazakh-KazakhstanThe Chinese border, as well as the consolidation of cargo by mode of transport and storage and terminal operations.
At present, two different-gauge railway tracks with a capacity of 60 conventional wagons, 2 richstackers of «Konecranes» brand with a capacity of 46 tons are fully operational on the territory of the container site. In October this year it is planned to put into operation the third riccaster.
The launch of the terminal is the first stage of a project to develop a multifunctional business area (with an industrial zone, a dry port zone and a transhipment terminal), which is implemented by the PTC Holding Group of Companies.
We see a great demand from shippers. Even though there was a pandemic, container transport showed a steady increase last year, while wagons, for example, showed some decline. For example, China — Europe saw container traffic grow by more than 60% in 2020 compared to 2019. Since the beginning of 2021, this trend continues — we see an increase in demand for routes to Europe and Central Asia. This indicates that many customers have switched to container transportation from other routes, for example, sea», — said General Director of the PTC Cargo Terminal Management Company Shingys Tuleushin.
The production capacity of the terminal consists of four stages: the first stage — 160,000 TEU; the second stage — 160,000 TEU; the third stage — 300,000 TEU; the fourth stage — the second stage modernization and additional capacity of 80,000 TEU. The second phase of the project has already started.
The final capacity of the terminal will be 700 thousand TEU, which will significantly increase the capacity and competitiveness of the route through the Dostyk station on the Kazakh part of the China-Europe transit.
For information: PTC Cargo LLP, a subsidiary of PTC Holding, is the management company of the cargo handling terminal. The company owns 600 fittings. In the direction of China-Europe, 5-6 international container trains are trans-shipped daily.
